One of the greatest endevours in the history of
film has recently been released on DVD. The SEVEN UP SERIES began in England in 1964 with a group
of seven-year-old children from various areas and backgrounds and has revisited them every
7 years to see how their lives are panning out.
The first three installments have never been available in the US until now, while 28 Up, 35 Up and 42 Up
have been on videotape for years. Watching this series is an extremely rewarding experience, as
is the case with so many documentaries. Here are just a few worth checking out:
Brother's Keeper, Best Boy, Hoop Dreams, How's Your News?, Hands on a Hard Body, Paradise Lost,
Streetwise, Thank You and Goodnight, The Times of Harvey Milk, To Be and To Have, When We Were Kings
We also have a nice selection of biographies, museum tours and nature documentaries (notably the BLUE PLANET SERIES and MICROCOSMOS).
